| The Vile Covert |
2003 |
Literary |
| Notes and Comments This story is in part based upon some events I witnessed as a child. Indeed, the so called Vile Covert was discovered by me and a group of friends, as well as some of the objects described in the story. The conclusions drawn in the story, however, are the fiction. There really wasn't anything in the actual events to come to such a conclusion, and that is where the story is strictly fictitious. This story is a demonstration of how a child's imagination can create the inconceivable.
This is the first time that this story is being made available to the public. |
| Tale of a Plane Wreck |
2001 |
Comedy, Literary |
| Notes and Comments The tale of four survivors of a plane wreck.
This was written as part of a school project associated with Golding's Lord of the Flies. The assignment was a group project to create an original tale of survival similar to that in Golding's novel. The characters were created by each member of the group, but I personally took the liberty of writing the tale.
I see this story as pulp fiction. Being that it is one of my earlier works, it is certainly not my best, but even today I find the tale entertaining, and I hope that my readers find it interesting as well. |
| Returning Home |
February 2010 |
Literary |
| Notes and Comments This is the story of a prisoner of war returning home from Vietnam. I originally conceived of this story about ten years ago. As a teenager I was very interested in war, particularly the Vietnam War, and I had always wanted to write about war. Those fantasies died off, and I lost all interest in war, so, naturally, I never wrote the story that I originally intended to write.
Just recently, though, I had an opportunity that begged me to write this story. So I finally did. Admittedly it is quite a bit different than the story that I had conceived ten years ago, but the general idea is still there.
This will probably be the last story I will ever write concerning a historic war. If I write about war in the future it will be strictly in a science fiction or fantasy setting. In fact, it is quite possible that future drafts of this story will be moved into science fiction. |
| Mere Memory |
2003 |
Literary, Weird Fiction |
| Notes and Comments Mere Memory is the tragic story of the relationship between a man and a woman. It is about a woman in love with a man that cannot return the affection to her. It is a sad story, featuring characters full of regret and sorrows.
I originally wrote this as a thesaurus game. I wanted to create a story that seemed as abstract as possibly, even with a fairly straightforward plot. Readers will notice the odd choice of words, sometimes forming awkward phrases, at other time forming beautiful sentences. Much of the story was written by right clicking on words, and then choosing a different word from the pop-up menu to replace them.
Writers often find themselves concerned about using the same word too often, and this story could be proof that maybe sometimes the same word is the right word. |
| Mario Strikes Back |
1990 |
Childrens |
| Notes and Comments It is my pleasure to present my oldest work of fiction that is still in existence. This may even be my oldest work of fiction ever written. As a special feature I'm including the original handwritten text of the story.
What I find most interesting about this story is that it shows that I had a love for video games at a very young age. Readers may be interested to know that this story predates my ownership of a video game console, but like all children of the 80s I knew who Mario was, and at least enough about the video game to write a story, albeit a short one. This story also shows an early insensitivity to death.
Being that most of my works of fiction from my Elementary School days have been lost or destroyed, I am quite pleased that this work survived for my readers to enjoy. |
